Is it wrong to be a WWE fan in India?

Everybody I knew in college was a huge Game
of Thrones fan. Even I am a huge fan of western TV shows. They have amazing production value, great
acting, compelling storylines and awesome people involved in it. Everyone in India is obsessed with western
TV shows, right? Some watch them because they are amazing,
while some do because it makes them ‘cool’ among their peers. You know, no one likes to be left out of ‘cool guys discussions’. Anyway, most of the people I know love Game
of Thrones. But when they hear that I watch pro wrestling
they look at me like I am fucking insane, or childish, or gullible, or any number of
worse adjectives. They think it’s childish to suspend disbelief
and watch something I know to be scripted, yet they have no qualms watching a TV show
full of dragons, ice zombies, giants and incest. And the worst part? ‘You know it’s fake, right?’ Genius, dumbass. I fucking know it’s scripted. Hell, every guy knows it’s scripted since
the 80s. It’s 2017. This doesn’t end here. There are people who really like wrestling
in India. I am talking about some serious wrestling
fans, who give a fuck about in-ring psychology, kayfabe, storylines and shit, but they don’t
speak it publicly because they think people may laugh on them. And really, You can watch a three hour flick where cars
fly, stuntmen do the job actors are supposed to do, ladies have nothing to do but go semi-naked
and fuck muscular guys, and everything is done with some CGI shit; and you think that pro-wrestling is ridiculous because it’s ‘fake’? Or is it because you want to act like ‘grown-up’ who don’t like things ‘children’ do? I’ll give you an example. I started watching pro-wrestling after I turned
19. I used to be one of the ‘cool’ guys who used to go, you watch wrestling? Are you like, 10? But then pro wrestling pulled me towards itself. And I started watching it just like I watch
all the other TV shows! And I will always support pro-wrestling, because it is something that I think is awesome. Pro Wrestling, as Max Landis puts it the best,
is the last great bastion of performance arts. Let’s face it, theatre is dying and no one goes to watch
circus anymore. So all we have in the name of performance
arts, is professional wrestling. Where, there are athletes who are actors as
well. And they just don’t act, they suffer. If you think everything in professional wrestling is fake, then how do you explain this? Or this, or even this? By the way the last clip had the fucking SON
of the owner of WWE taking that bump. He had no business to do so but he did. No stuntmen, no CGI. You don’t see fucking Vin Diesel or Ajay
Devgan taking that jump. And if you have never seen pro wrestling,
and you go ‘Ah! It’s fake!’ God bless you brah. Something that I find really funny is that
the people who say that pro wrestling is fake are the same people who go, (translation) That Ajay Devgn’s jump in Baadshaho (movie) is so freaking great! If someone is actually hurting
themselves just to tell stories and please the crowd, I think they should be treated with more respect. And yes, there is a lot of shit in pro wrestling that’s plain fucking dumb. And almost every other Indian wrestler sucks,
but when wrestling is good, it’s fucking brilliant. When the payoff is good, it’s comparable
to payoff in any other great TV show! You see, pro wrestling, and in particular,
WWE is a TV show that has its story running on since DECADES, and even great and long
shows like Doctor Who have had some ridiculous episodes, so it’s okay that a lot of things
in wrestling are dumb. Because there are more positives to focus
on. And personally, my love for pro-wrestling
isn’t limited to WWE. I watch shows from Lucha Underground,
NJPW, ROH and other wrestling promotions as well. I have used WWE in the title because in India,
wrestling=WWE. And finally let me tell you something. Sting’s debut gave me goosebumps just like
Sopranos’ last scene. I laugh at things Dean Ambrose does just like
I laugh watching Dwight in The Office. Just like I can binge-watch The Wire, I can
watch Attitude Era episodes of Raw for an entire day. I feel that Stone Cold Steve Austin is on
the same badass level as Frank Underwood in House Of Cards is. Like I said, I like other western TV shows
too. But it fucking sucks how a lot of people who
are critical of wrestling’s scripted nature don’t hold themselves to
the same standard.
