Jesse Jantzen ’04 | HVC Hall of Fame Class of 2019 Introduction


Jesse Jantzen was a true pioneer for
Harvard wrestling choosing to forge his own path and do what had never been done
before as the most heralded recruit in program history
he became the program’s first three-time all-american the first three-time IWA
Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association champion and the first to be
named to the All Ivy League first team in four consecutive years along the way
he also earned Outstanding Wrestler honors at the eiw a championship was
named the Ivy League and iiw a wrestler of the year and was the co recipient of
the William J Bingham award at the senior letter winners dinner as the most
outstanding male athlete in the class of 2004 and helped Harvard to its first Ivy
League and aiwa titles he was so dominant in fact that he remains
Harvard’s career leader in wins win percentage and pins Jantzen cemented his
legacy as a senior when he closed out his career by being named the NCAA
Championships most outstanding wrestler after securing Harvard wrestling’s first
national championship in 66 years his younger brother Corey who himself
was a three-time NCAA Championships qualifier for the Crimson remembers
fondly the moments after his brothers historic win quote as time expired the

Jesse took off his headgear and pointed to the small but strong Harvard cheering
section thereby honoring the people who helped him accomplish this feat his

younger siblings who idolized and inspired him his friends and training
partners who gave time and energy to help him accomplish his goals he then

finally he embraced his coaches who believed in his ability to change
