WWE News – The Great Khali on WWE failing in India Former WWE World Heavyweight Champion The Great Khali is not happy with the WWEs attempt to attack the Indian market. India is one of the biggest professional wrestling fanbases in the world, but no professional wrestling promotion has really seemed to capture the market just yet. Both IMPACT Wrestling and WWE have had their respective runs through the country for live events, with Jinder Mahal and The Great Khali being the biggest stars from the country. During Khalis days with the company as World Champion he was not happy with WWE and how they prioritized the Indian market. He also wanted to leave several times but was continuously offered contracts. He finally rejected them and returned to India where he opened up his own wrestling promotion, Continental Wrestling Entertainment (CWE). Khali recently spoke to The New Indian Express to talk about his time with WWE. Khali explained how the WWE has failed while trying to capture the Indian market of professional wrestling (quotes via Wrestling Inc. The WWE has failed in India. They thought they would use the Great Khali fully and then leave him. I [had] been trying hard for [a long time] to leave WWE, but they kept on offering me [a] contract. Finally in 2014, I decided I [would] leave once my contract [ended] and [would] not work with them ever again. Then I came back and opened CWE [Continental Wrestling Entertainment] in Punjab, which is doing well. He also explained how he wants to change the way professional wrestling training is done in India as well:. The future of wrestling is very bright and it can be better, if handled in a better way, if a coach is provided or [a better foundation] is given. The mentality of the Indian sportsmen is very weak. Many of them depend upon drugs. They feel that the consumption of drugs will help in enhancing their performance and will help them in clinching a medal. They receive too much of love after winning a medal that they forget to concentrate on sports.
